Education is the process of fostering learning, either the acquisition of skills, knowledge, values, attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors. Educational systems include formal training, teaching, counseling, storytelling, research and applied research. Education contributes to societal development by producing citizens capable of problem-solving and independent citizens. The process of education develops individuals and builds on their strengths while teaching them to respect other people and the world around them.

Education involves the systematic study of how people learn, what processes produce learning, what purposes learners fulfill, what they can and cannot achieve, and why they change. Education systems vary in scale, scope, duration, and student characteristics. At formal education levels, the goal of learning is academic success through passing exams. Courses are typically based on subject matter, a topic or a teacher-to-student relationship. Students at higher education levels typically participate in more extensive learning processes that span multiple disciplines and include both formal classroom study and informal learning processes such as recreational learning, work experience, or social work.

Informal education encompasses all those processes that facilitate learning; these are usually the product of the institutional structure or are directly influenced by it. It may be based at informal education levels, but it can also occur outside the classroom, within communities or in non-traditional settings. Informal education can take the form of cultural, artistic, recreational, communication or social media interactions, interpersonal interactions, experiences carried out through travel and observation, news and events, literature, self-help programs and practices, science and technology, and television and cinema. In some cases, informal education occurs within and is affected by formal education systems.

Informal learning process differs from traditional formal education systems in terms of its focus and content. Informal education systems allow for critical analysis, participation and evaluation of the learning experience, evaluation of one’s own knowledge and thinking, development and evaluation of one’s relationships and interactions with others, and also the production and evaluation of one’s social media content. These processes allow students to reflect upon their own life experiences and generate critically based knowledge based on their individual and collective social media experiences. This knowledge is then used in the classroom to engage students and facilitate learning.

The difference between traditional formal education and informal learning is that in traditional formal education, facts and concepts are presented to students in the classroom and are derived from hard facts and research about that particular subject. Informal education takes place through informal means, such as games, literature, field trips, discussion boards, online discussions and simulations. Informal education is different from traditional formal education in the sense that it involves the application rather than content. Informal education involves various forms of communication such as the use of texts, pictures, sounds, data, videos, computer applications, and knowledge representation. Informal education includes processes that help people improve their knowledge, which in turn helps them enhance their capacity to learn. This type of education is usually taught by teachers, who work in teams, and is not based on any formal curriculum.

Non-formal education is also known as informal educational practices. This is a form of education where materials, information, and knowledge are presented to students through the senses. It is delivered through non-traditional methods such as oral communication, hands-on real-life situations, and visual presentations. The materials, information, and knowledge presented in such non-formal education are taken from various fields such as anthropology, art, business, computer science, journalism, physical sciences, and psychology. This type of education has no set curriculum and students are encouraged to participate and acquire knowledge on their own.

Distance education is one of the most popular forms of higher education today. With the advent of the digital age, distance education has made it possible for people to earn a degree without actually attending a university or college. In today’s world, earning a degree online is a great way for people to increase their qualifications and improve their employment prospects. Distance education offers a flexible schedule that allows students to earn a degree from the convenience of their home. In addition, online college courses are cheaper than traditional on-campus programs.

Distance education is available in almost every State but can differ depending on the State you live in. However, all States require the same general education requirements, which include completion of high school, completion of a GED, or completion of an accredited program. Online secondary school education takes place in many different forms including, correspondence, online learning, virtual learning, blended learning, and distance education seminars.
